Jesus asks this resonant question of his disciples, and of us. Who is this Jesus? Peter boldly declares that Jesus is the Messiah, but then immediately misses the point of what kind of Messiah Jesus is -- not a conquering the Romans king but a suffering servant. Then Jesus reveals himself on the mountaintop in all his glory, and again the disciples don't get it! Jesus must suffer and be rejected. He is on the way to the cross.
